Visa Processing Updates for Indian Students

Start Date

At a live Facebook Q&A session on June 10, Don Heflin, Minister Counselor with Counselor Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi shared the good news that many thousands of appointments will open for Indian students starting Monday, June 14, 2021.

He also shared that there will be 12% more open appointments in July; and perhaps 12% more open in August as more staff is in place at the consulates.

Some of the other key takeaways from the discussion are:

  • All the consular posts will offer appointments and students can book appointments at any of the five consular posts.
  • Applicants whose appointments were cancelled, or emergency visa appointments requests rejected, will need to reapply for new appointments on Monday, June 14, 2021.
  • Applicants who are booking appointments should not just hit refresh if the system slows down or stops, but wait or start again. They system recognizes continual refresh requests as a bot action and will lock out the applicant.
  • Any visa appointments already scheduled for June and beyond that were not cancelled are still valid.
  • Emergency Appointments not required for visa appointments.
  • COVID19 Test not required for interviews at the consulates.

We hope this will help you get the needed visa appointment and look forward to welcoming you in person on Grounds in Charlottesville.
