Virtual International Student Support Group Begins

September 11, 2020

Weekly on Fridays 1:15-2:30pm, September 11-November 20 on Zoom

This is a weekly support group for international students to discuss common issues as they adjust to the culture in the U.S. and on UVa Grounds. International students often face multiple challenges, including language, communication, social, and academic stressors in a culturally new environment. The uncertainties and changes associated with COVID create additional stress for international students, and they need more resilience to adapt. This group provides a safe space for students to meet virtually to talk about what has been hard or different for them as international students, and what can help their wellbeing and cross-cultural adaptation. The group will focus on peer sharing and support, along with discussion of coping strategies/skills and resources. The group will meet on Zoom weekly on Friday at 1:15-2:30pm, starting on September 11th and meeting until November 20th.

Regardless of your location, this group is open to all registered UVA undergraduate, graduate students as well as exchange students and international scholars. If you’re interested, please email Dr. Baozhen Xie at bx2w@virginia.edu or Dr. Caren Freeman at cwf8q@virginia.edu.

The Group is supported by UVa Student Health-CAPS and International Studies Office.
