Dear International Students,
This afternoon UVA’s Executive Vice President and Provost Liz Magill communicated the attached message to the Department of Homeland Security to express our serious objections to the recently proposed rule to change the duration of status for our international students and exchange visitors. We are also in the process of briefing Virginia’s congressional delegation on our views and asking their support to request that the Department withdraw this injurious proposal. The University will continue to remain closely focused on this issue in the weeks ahead, and will continue to report to you on developments as they occur.
The University of Virginia remains energetically committed to defending our international student community, and looks forward to continued engagement with you on how best to do so.
Sincerely,
Stephen Mull
Vice Provost for Global Affairs
